Being home for just one week we have allowed ourselves to unpack, catch up with family and friends and get over the horrendous jet lag; all while beginining the desperate search for a job and a place to live.
Well our luck was in! After less than a week and just a few hours of searching we landed ourselves a job! No interview necessary, a rent free flat-above-a-pub, a bar and waitressing job and all within a stones throw away from mum and dad!
We spent the weekend packing up our lives again and after a short break in Cardiff to celebrate Alice's birthday we were off on our way to start a new adventure at The Orange Tree pub in Chadwick End, Solihul.
After the first day of work there i realised that the cracks were begining to show. Management were stressed and hard to deal with although the part time staff were relaxed and easy to get along with, we all felt the undue pressure begin to build and after just one week we both realised that we hated it.
For a lot of the time we were exhausted, i felt undervalued and downright stupid at times and matt was treated like a child. Still getting over jet lag and a nasty bump to the head courtesy of a slippery floor and the point of marble table number 5 we decided that it definatley wasn't where we wanted to be.
That's when we began the job search elsewhere....
Running through my head was the desperate need for another big adventure so i filed a couple of applications for a teaching job in China. We were invited to an interview and were seriously considering just picking up sticks and heading out there when it suddenly dawned on us that we had worked so hard to get into Nottingham Trent University and it would be a shame to let that go. We realised we couldn't afford to commit ourselves to 6 months abroad and instead we left the Orange Tree pub and began a voluntry work experience week each at Primary schools local to mum and dad.
I LOVED my experience at Ham Dingle Primary school. It really has confirmed my ambition to be a primary school teacher and it proved successful at my interview at Notts as i knocked out 2000 applicants for a place to study Primary Education there this October!
Matt seemed to enjoy his time at Hagley Primary although felt bored at times being stuck inside a classroom and realised that he wanted to be playing sports outside.
Although his interview went well, unfortunatley he was unsuccessful, which we have now come to realise was a blessing in disguise.
Matt is now busy applying for the Sport Science and Mathematics course at NTU while i prepare myself for a busy 4 years of studying that lies ahead....
