Today we drove a whopping 500km up the scenic west coast to Greymouth. Along the way we stopped at Fox and Franz Joseph Glacier to have a walk in the icy cold air and took photos of two Glaciers that had fallen and frozen between two mountains. We hopped back in the car and headed north towards Hokitika. There we had a nosy around a Greenstone museum. Then drove on to Greymouth.
Along the way I entertained myself by looking out for penguins along the rugged coastline after noticing the warning signs. I was taken by surprise as I spotted one little blue penguin flapping its flightless wings on top of a large rock by the shore.
When we arrived at Greymouth, it was all rathe grey to be honest so we found a nice hostel to stay in and dashed off for a bite to eat. We found a nice pizzeria and shared a large pizza and coke (unhealthy I know, but we are trying to save the cents!!) We then gathered up some swim wear and headed to the local swimming pool to escape the rain. Matt tried to teach me to dive, but I chose to bellyflop instead!
We were pretty tired after our swim and matt was shattered from all the driving so we cosy-ed up in the hostel lounge in front of the fire and played a few rounds of checkers. Matt won every time (of course!) After a long day we went to bed and caught up on some sleep knowing we had another long northerly drive ahead of us tomorrow...
